Photokina Katwalk by Kodak

A dispatch from Köln, Germany-

The 160,000 people attending Photokina, the über photo industry exposition, are being treated to unique fashion shows this week. These photos were sent to us by our Kodak fashionistas from the catwalk in Germany.

We are always trying to find creative uses for our products and this goes above and beyond! These outfits were crafted from Kodak products. Who knew that Endura Metallic Photo Paper, Picture CDs, High Performance Memory Cards, Gallery photo canvas, Portra 160VC film, Portra 400NC film boxes, and photo slides could become elements of haut couture?

We will never look at camera straps the same way again. We haven't even begun to explore fashionable uses for USB cables or printer dock trays. Are they candidates for prêt-à-porter? How about your colorful used thermal printer cartridge ribbons? This is also opening up some doors of opportunity. Don't just show your neighbors a slide show of your vacation...wear them over to their house! No need to e-mail Mom pictures of your new puppy...show up for Sunday dinner swathed in photos of Fido! Whaddya think, is this a fashion trend or risk? ;-)

Ciao for now, tommy h.

Love, Innovation, and Fruit Flies

Love and fruit flies... huh?! Let me explain...

At this time of year, Rochester's area orchards are full of ripe fruit and the population of bees and fruit flies increase. A swarm of these fruit flies have found their way into the kodak.com area at Kodak HQ! Jill Bird, a member of the Site Operations team, explained the situation to her husband Jim. Jim is a clever and resourceful engineer who works at Kodak Park, our manufacturing center here in Rochester, NY.

As Jill describes it, she heard strange noises coming from her basement last night while Jim was tinkering around. Later he came up the stairs with an invention to help with the fruit fly situation. Using a clunky rotary thing-a-ma-bob from an old Kodak prototype, he crafted a machine he dubbed "The Fruit Fly Flattener." After 32 years of marriage if that isn't love I don't know what is!

We are unsure if patents will be pursued at this time but will keep you posted. Certainly someone in Business Research has a spreadsheet tracking the results by now - Thwack!!

A thousand words and much more...

A blog from Kodak? Does the world really need another blog? Well, we think so. Let me tell you why- Kodak is at the epicenter of an exciting transformation in the world of imaging. Did you know that Kodak invented the digital camera and we just celebrated its thirtieth birthday? Heck, the inventor, a guy named Steve, still works here. So, do we have something to say about digital imaging? You bet, plenty! Who better to bring you stories from the trenches of digital photography than people from around the globe who live, breathe, and dream about the topic each and every day (and night!). The post from Tina telling her daughter's story is just one of the hundreds of examples we will share.

When we were initially talking about this blog, we wondered what we would call it. I am happy to say that the name wasn't chosen by poring over reams of research from focus groups or arrived at by committee. It was more like, "Um, how about a thousand words?" "Uh, yeah, sounds good." This blog will be more than words - it is the pictures that speak volumes. Our goal is to post every day and for each post to have at least one great photo. Keep us true to that with participation via your comments.
We hope that you find the conversations that are going to occur here to be enriching and engaging. Enough so that you will want to read, share, comment, even bookmark us.

We have a number of passionate people queued up ready to contribute stories, tips, behind the scenes views, and of course pictures!
The scoop you will get from here:
  • Tips and techniques from Kodak experts
  • Inspirational stories brought to life through photography - a.k.a. Kodak Moments
  • Behind the scenes tales. Insider perspectives from passionate people.
  • "Gee, I didn't know Kodak did that!" stories from Mars to Montana of our imaging technology in use
  • Off the wall stuff that most likely will be a surprise to us too!
A thousand words? An apt title for a blog from Kodak? You be the judge, tell us.
